Memorial Day Wellness 2022

While known as the unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day is also a day of remembrance and appreciation. As we honor the men and women who have died while on duty with the US military, this can be an emotionally draining and trying time for people who have lost friends and loved ones serving overseas. Below is a list of ways you can celebrate while promoting self care and wellness this Memorial Day:


1. Attend a Memorial Day Service

This year, there are several Memorial Day ceremonies slated across North County and in San Diego to remember and honor military members who died serving this country. 

In Oceanside, The Veterans Association of North County will hold a remembrance ceremony from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 29th in the VANC Resource Center, 1617 Mission Ave. 

San Dieguito American Legion Post 416 is having a Memorial Day Celebration from 10:30AM to 11:30AM in front of the historic American Legion building in downtown Encinitas.

The American Legion Post 365 will have a Memorial Day ceremony with music and tributes at 10AM on May 29 at the Vista Civic Center. 

Vista Strawberry Festival kicks off Memorial Day weekend at 6:45AM on May 28. This all-ages free event features live entertainment on multiple stages, bands and local craft brews in the beer garden. 


2. Write a Letter to Servicemen and Women

What better way to honor our troops and support those currently fighting for our country than to let them know how much we appreciate their service? Take a few minutes to write a letter (or several!) to servicemen and women, either those you know or through an organization that mails letters and packages to those abroad. Operation Gratitude is a great site where you can donate and write thank you letters to the military. 


3. Get Moving Outside

Moving your body is an essential part of taking care of yourself and relieving stress. Bring your yoga mat to the beach, find a new trail to hike with friends or take a walk around your neighborhood. Not only will you still get in a solid workout, but you’ll burn off anxiety, release endorphins and feel great.
